Celebrating forgiveness.
The prompt of the weekend is celebrating forgiveness. Well this is having me stumped, and Robusta does not help. When in trouble ask mama, and my 75yr. Old mama has a simple rule..(She is a math teacher) that is write the data out, then identify the constant and calculate the unknown. “Forgiveness” seems straight forward while it is the “celebrate” stumps. Now Merriam-Webster tells me that
To celebrate is to perform a sacrament of solemn ceremony publicly with appropriate rites… like a mass. It could also be to honour an occasion especially by ceremonies or by refraining from ordinary business. To mark something may be an anniversary by festivities or other deviation from routine. To hold up or play up for public notice. Like poetry to celebrate the glory of nature.
Interestingly though often forgiveness is used in the sense of atonement, forgiveness as Merriam-Webster says is to cease to feel resentment against an offender. It is also to give up resentment or claim to requital, for forgive an insult. It could also be to grant relief from payment, like forgiving a debt.
Quite often we are quite often we mistake forgiveness for repentance, but repentance is about an act to seek forgiveness. Another popular adage is forgive and forget, from where I see it forgiveness is not about forgetting, it is about letting go of another person’s throat. Forgiveness does not create a relationship. The only way to rebuild a relationship is to rebuild the trust, for which people need to speak the truth of what they have done and change their mind and behaviour. When we forgive someone we definitely release them from judgement but it does not require us to trust them. Just in case they do confess and repent, then there is something in us, probably a miracle that allows us to reach out and build a bridge, I find myself doing EFT whenever I need to forgive someone, it might have to be done dozens of time the first few days but it gradually lessens. One day I realize that I am released from the bondage of that pain and I am whole again.
Forgiveness I realize has nothing to do with absolving someone from the pain they inflict; it has everything to do with relieving oneself of the burden of being a victim. Letting go of the pain makes me a survivor. To quote Oprah Winfrey “True forgiveness is when you can say, “Thank You for the experience”
But just a tail note always forgive your enemies, nothing annoys them more.
For those who would like to practise forgiveness actively
The key to achieving your fitness goals is to get excited about it. And from this
Moment on you are totally excited about the new you that you are creating.
You now focus on the end results of what you would like to look like and how
You feel as the goal you. See yourself as the goal you already and realize what it
Took to get you here. Excitement, exercise and motivation.
You are very eager to attain this goal and each day you wait in anticipation for
The moment to come that you can begin exercising knowing that you are
Becoming the goal you each day. Just as a sculptor chips away at the excess
Pieces of wood to find the masterpiece that is within. You are the masterpiece
Already and are simply chipping away at the excess … uncovering the true beauty
That has always been there… undiscovered.
It is now enjoyable to exercise; it is enjoyable to be motivated… You are
Developing a regular routine or habit of exercise … feeling better and better each
