Mr.Rathod gets off with 18mnths rigorous imprisonment, 2 mnths short of the maximum term.
Whether this is – proportionate enough is the current debate.
But how do you quantify the crime and place a directly proportionate punishment.
The issues here are more than only Rathod,
- First one would start with should we complain. I know parents who react with “nahi badnami hogi” It will be problematic for her to get married later on.
- Even though the victim and family would want to book the predator, the next more dominanting issue will be fear, the predator could do something worse.
The social system also nurtures this attitude.
The media the judicial system would harass the victim so much that it would be more traumatic. But not doing so would give rise to another set of offenses.
One thing that I find very curious, why is the media not talking to Rathod’s family, particularly Rathod’s daughter now that would be really interesting and probably more upseting to Mr.Rathod than the 18mnths that he would spend imprisoned.
