A book that I would recommend is by the author Robert Kimmel Smith

Jane's House by Robert Kimmel Smith is a book that stayed with me. This was a book that I read in 1980 just after high school. The teachers touting Daphne Du Maurier, and we were figuring the complexity of the first wife and second wife. There was also the staple diet of the wicked stepmother.
Robert Smith's book came with a very normal woman who had her strong points and weakeness stepping into the shoes of a perfect first wife. Not that she was perfect, but as one of the charecters mentions being a wife and mother comes with lot of adjustments that happens with the growing family, the second wife had to grow into it.
I can go on and on about the book. Every charecter has so much to share.
