a barb is a sharp projection extending backward and preventing easy extraction. it could also be a sharp projection with its point similarly oblique to something else.
a barb could be a biting or pointedly critical comments
1991 a museum dedicated to Barbed wires was opened in McLean Texan United states. the museum is said to have the largest collection of published material on barbed wire. this museum is housed in converted brassiere factory and is totally dedicated to the history of barbed wires. it looks at the various uses of barbed wire like fencing tools, the use of barbed wire in ranching heritage. these exhibits featured are collected from private wire collectors across US. it also deals with patents and other information for researchers and educators.
there are specimens for salesmen or rather of salesman samples, warfare wire, road lore artifacts of the historic route 66 of Texas.
actually, Barbed wire or Barb wire is a steel fencing wire constructed with edges or points arranged at intervals along the strands. it was initially used to construct inexpensive fences and it also acted as a security measure on top of walls surrounding property. it was an obstacle in trench warfare.
a person or an animal trying pass through or over barbed wire suffers discomfort and maybe even injury. it is quick to erect and does not require skill, all that is required are poles at uniform intervals and staples to fix the device.
in 1867 Lucien .Smith of Kent-Ohio was issued the first patent. he is also regarded as the inventor. in 1874 Joseph Gildan of DeKalb, Illinois received a patent for the modern version as he made medication to previous version.
the advantage of the Barbed wire is they are cheaper and easier to erect as compared to Osange Orange which is a thorny bush. this bush is not only time consuming to grow, it also requires transplantation. in the 19th century wire fences became widely available all-over united states. this made fencing of large areas affordable and intensive animal husbandry became practical.
On a practical note, maybe we can stop creating walls around ourselves and put barbed wires instead them. allow people to see you, talk to you but don’t let them get any closer. how my dear barbed words work just as well as fences.
But honestly if anyone really needs to know about barbed wire, then Billy Connell got it right. Barbed wire is that it can tear the arse out of your trousers, give a cow a good fright, entangle a Yorkshire terrier for life and is nasty stuff made by greedy men.
