HaseKale

HaseKale

is a folk-art form Sagar in Karnataka. Bandagadde Radhakrishna is dedicated to reviving the art form that he viewed drawn on or walls of windows of houses of DigateKoppa.

the white lines drawn on the earth walls fascinated him. What I am sharing here is what I gathered from him.

In 1995 dramatist and producer Prasanna Angana launched a training program on this and the mission was hyperlocal. Local food, songs, narratives, things drawings were used to teach the children.  Prasanna had also launched a small-scale handicraft project for the women, so that they could use handloom material to create shirts, bags, files etc. Gauramma from Heggodu came in as a facilitator for this art.  HaseKale came on to the greeting cards, glass and porcelain ware

Naa. D’Souza and Deepak Sagar were other researchers in this area.  Purnima brought Hasekale to the world of embroidery. Ishwar Naik was another artist who practised and brought this art form and was acknowledged on interational platforms.

With Shimogga as centre this art form is being developed along the malnaad area.
