Media has compromised seems a favorite line of all of us.
We read what interests us in a newspaper some “of us don’t even read the newspaper. But interest again can be created. Look at the massive paraphernalia of marketing and news creating that occurs round the so called reality show.
Media creates the persona, the incidents; we borrow the prejudices that belong to the news channels and newspaper.
Let’s take a good look who at controls the media?
Nice to say the Missionary church or the European powers, well we have abdicated our rights to a invisible boogie and lament.
The fact is that the advertiser controls the media; this is because he pays for the news. This happens essentially because we become consumers. the newspaper or magazine subscriptions come with goodies, and all these cost money.
look at it honestly the Kabadiwallah pays more for the old newspaper than what we pay for the new one.
So who bears the cost? The advt.man and he dictates terms. His terms are to suit his corporate masters.
If we want to have a responsible media then it starts with us being responsible citizens which means we need information not sensation whether Angelina Jolie marries or divorces its her personal trip. If 10 people want to be cooped up in a house its their funeral, this should not eat up the valuable print stock.
Switch off the channel that invades the moral and ethical fabric of your home it’s just a button away lower the TRP the earlier the program goes off the air. Lesser the subscription lesser the advertisers.
It’s the new year time – a time to renew our newspaper subscription, lets take stock of what we would like to read and just get that.
