charisma

ImageWhat does the word charisma evoke?

The dictionary defines it as

1 : a personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (as a political leader)

2 : a special magnetic charm or appeal <the charisma of a popular actor>

Many people believe that it is a gift either one is born with.  To me charisma is an inspiring persona, and that is recreate-able. This is proved by a research done by the university of Lausanne. 12 tactics are regularly demonstrated by charismatic leaders. Of these 12 tactics 9 are verbal and 3 non verbal.

VERBAL TACTICS

  1.  Moral conviction this is demonstrated by linking messages to an underlying moral principle to do the right thing.
  2. 2.    Listening to the concerns of the audience, emphasizing a shared history, struggle or desire and thus reflecting the sentiment of the group.
  3. Setting high goals both of self and the audience
  4. Communicating with confidence  that the goal is achievable.
  5. Engaging the listeners with real-life stories to wrap a lesson with.
  6. Using metaphors, similes, and analogies during the conversation or speech which will allow the audience to relate.
  7. Defining oneself clearly as to what you are and what you are not, this goes for ideas too.
  8. Organize the message into triads, three-part lists.
  9. Asking rhetoric questions to involve the audience.

NON VERBAL TACTICS.

  1. The words should be punctuated with appropriate symbols and gestures these should be natural.
  2. The face should express the spoken word, these expressions should be consistent.
  3. The voice should have volume, tone, pacing and pauses to emphasize your message.
