March 1st the world civil defence day. It was created in 1972 to commemorate the acceptance of ICDO (International Civil Defence Organization)constitution as an intergovernmental organization. The basic purpose of is however
- Bringing to the attention of the world public the importance of civil protection, and raising the awareness when it comes to prevention and protection measures in the event of accidents or disasters.
- It is also an occasion to pay tributes to the efforts, sacrifices and accomplishments of national services that help to fight against disasters.
In 1941 the office of civil defence was set up to coordinate civilian defence efforts. Civil defence is an effort to protect the citizens of a state from military attacks and natural disasters. With the changing global politics and policies warfare has changed. There is also an emerging need for management of disasters both manmade and natural.
