Uncovering Neural Pathways to our Natural Abode
Ah, what a jolly contemplation it was, my dear chum, as I engaged in the musings of yesteryear. The onset of the month, you see, bears a resemblance to a miniature commencement of the annual calendar. My esteemed tutor, the sagacious Jan Sky of Brain Potential, laid down a challenge in the inaugural week of January. The query posed was of a most personal nature – what, pray tell, is one’s mental health objective for the entire annum?
Naturally, I had my vision board, the to-do list, and the lofty aspirations neatly laid out. Yet, being a healer by profession, a profound realization dawned upon me – a bespoke goal for my own convalescence, or let’s whimsically christen it “mental health.” Without much ado, I blurted out ‘UNFETTERED.’
Jan, that wise woman, graciously acknowledged my response, expressed gratitude for the reintroduction of a somewhat neglected word, and then posed the crucial question – how, in the grand scheme of things, did I intend to achieve this elusive state? A ‘Hail Mary’ moment ensued, where my default setting of list-making and acquiring aesthetically pleasing calendars came to the forefront, albeit with a regrettable lack of utilization.
However, Jan’s inquiry into the mechanics of my plan prompted a bit of introspection. To be genuinely unfettered, I realized, there lay a paradox – the need for structure. A structured approach, I mused, would liberate me from the shackles of pending tasks, unresolved emotions, and sundry burdens. Intriguingly, it would usher me back into the embrace of my cherished realm – the ‘spiritual zone.’
Despite my outward guise of a Toastmaster, reveller in fine spirits, and connoisseur of feni, the spiritual zone of abundance delved deeper. It involved recognizing the intricacies of our neural pathways and orchestrating a rewiring, a transformation that would recalibrate our thoughts and responses. An arduous undertaking, one might say, as the limbic brain, often referred to as the lizard brain, stirred in its vigilance against perceived threats.
My customary approach, focusing on the identification of the most crucial task, seemed ineffective. The homeostasis was disrupted, and a primal urge to seek refuge in obscurity gripped me. Clearly, a fresh strategy was in order. As per the wisdom of Demir Bentley, a luminary in such matters, I scrutinized my work schedule.
The code was elegantly simple – a manifestation of the Marie Kondo rule. Tasks were segregated into two columns
– those that unfettered
–those that fettered.
From an initial list of 32 tasks, I whittled it down to a manageable 10. A re-evaluation of the ‘fetters me’ list ensued, resulting in a refined inventory of a dozen crucial tasks.
Lo and behold, this strategic manoeuvre granted me the freedom to indulge in what brings me the utmost joy – assisting others in discovering the neural pathways that connect them to their unique corner of the universe.
In a moment I morphed from Dahlia of a souffle that wouldn’t rise to Dahlia of the perfect souffle. By Jove, we all possess a distinctive space, and merely acknowledging this fact proved to be a stride toward unfettering oneself. Quite the revelation, wouldn’t you agree.
