Translation: “Arise, arise, O copper-bug! Arise, O flag-bearer of the cockroaches! Shake off your deep slumber, O King of the Opposition, and bring some good fortune to this Republic!”
Shrunu Vipakshendra
I come here not to blame the “Pradhana Sevak” and his tireless “adhara Sevak,” despite the popular hashtag #BlogtothePM” by @blogadda. But to bemoan the untimely, pathetic death of the Opposition.
The rulers in New Delhi at least do their homework. Say what you will about their ideology, they punch in every morning, sharpen their knives, and worship at the altar of raw power. They play politics like grandmasters. You, on the other hand, spend your days sipping lukewarm tea under the banyan tree of moral outrage, waiting for power to fall into your lap like an overripe mango. Because you refuse to stir, my poor offspring—the humble, scuttling Tamra-Kitas—have to crawl out from under the woodwork, abandon their kitchen tables, and play the role of surrogate rebels. It is an embarrassing tamasha. No mother wants to see her children play martyrs while the chief generalissimo snores through the war.
Let us get one thing straight before your troll army labels me an agent of the regime: I am all for a Common Civil Code. Any sensible citizen wants archaic, clerical nonsense replaced by a single, fair law. Why should a woman’s right to inherit land or walk away from a terrible marriage depend on which holy book her grandfather read? One basic standard of human decency must protect every daughter of this country.
The flip side—which you are far too blind or too lazy to notice—is that the ruling class is not peddling this law out of pure, bleeding-heart charity. They have set a brilliant, three-part mouse trap, and you have walked straight into the cheese:
- The Reformist Mask: By dressing Article 44 in the silks of feminist liberation, the regime grabs the high ground. If you oppose them, you look like a medieval bigot defending mullahs and patriarchy. If you agree, they collect the votes. By dishing it out state-by-state, they avoid Delhi-level riots while keeping the cash register of Hindu consolidation ringing loud and clear.
- The Post-Dated Cheque for Women: They threw rose petals and beat drums over 33% parliamentary seats for women. But did you read the fine print? The seats will not be delivered until the distant census and delimitation tamasha wrap up. It is classic Delhi durbar trickery: bask in the progressive glory today, hand over actual power in the distant hereafter.
- The Delimitation Ambush: While you shout yourself hoarse on prime-time television, the map-makers are sharpening their scissors. By redrawing constituency boundaries strictly on headcounts, they will shower parliament seats on the populous northern heartland. Meanwhile, the southern states—whose only crime was educating their people and controlling their population—will be rewarded with political irrelevance.
| The Grand Move | The Pretty Façade | The Cynical Truth | What You Should Demand |
| State-by-State UCC | Gender justice and national unity | Silent voter polarization without central friction | Enforceable statutory safeguards for pluralism |
| Deferred Women’s Quota | Historic leap for womanhood | Pure election optics; zero seats till past 2031 | Immediate decoupling from census and maps |
| Boundary Delimitation | Honest democratic counting | Squeezing out the South to crown northern numbers | Hybrid seat allocation rewarding human development |
If you cannot tell a genuine reform from a well-laid political ambush, hand over your credentials and vacate the field.
Like every exhausted mother who finds the night watchman dead drunk on duty, I have no choice but to wake up my own children to face the storm.
So here is the morning alarm:
लोकतन्त्र-सुप्रजा कीट पूर्वाह्नोऽयं प्रवर्तते ।
उत्तिष्ठोत्तिष्ठ तैलपध्वज गणतन्त्रं मङ्गलं कुरु ॥
(Lokatantra-suprajā kīṭa pūrvāhno’yaṁ pravartate |
Uttiṣṭhottiṣṭha tailapadhvaja gaṇatantraṁ maṅgalaṁ kuru ||)
Translation: “O noble bug spawned of Democracy, broad daylight is already upon us! Arise, arise, O cockroach-bannered one, and save what is left of this Republic!”
Signing off,
Yours sincerely,
Concerned Tamra-Keeta Amma
