The secret of surrender…. seeing the illusion.

Long ago I read this book I think count your chicken before is hatched by Arindam Choudari, he spoke of dependence—independence—interdependence. I could not really figure it out, all the same I also came across people seeming very competent in control CEO’s but totally under the thumb of their spiritual guru’s this was something I found very difficult to understand and accept.

But be it Landmark forum or Hypnotherapy the constant message was let go … go with the flow…surrender. For me surrender is another word for giving up that is not trying. Yet somewhere as read the noting I made this is what comes tome

Surrender should be seen as great strength and comes when we let go of trying to attain the impossible.

My upbringing emphasized the ideals of independence and control. The general idea is we are on our own and we don’t need any help from anyone else, and if we are really successful it’s because we are in complete control.  But here I am told true lasting success comes from only surrender which is the opposite of control. We cannot accomplish anything truly great on our own without any help and that we can is an illusion that causes most of us great deal of suffering.  Surrender I am re-taught as great strength rather than a weakness as it comes from a space of being beyond illusion.

Maybe it makes sense, so I experimented with small moments of surrender and I found powerful indications of how different my life would if I could let go. The amount of effort and energy that went to reach particular goal only to realize that I could make it happen after all well was pretty draining.  Then one moment I let go realizing that I need to ask for help or release my agenda entirely this brought out a profound feeling of relief that was almost catharsis. This warm open sensation I realized was the essence of surrender and I felt it only when I really let go. With hypnotherapy I realized it’s never too late to let go, even of things in the past that didn’t work out the way we wanted them to because surrender I realize is an available option in every moment of our lives.

Maybe surrender lets us reach goal simply because surrendering is asking for help we need. This help may come in the form of other human beings or unseen helpers such as angels or inner guides, it may also come in the form of shifting circumstances the small miracles we call grace.
